Ireland is the 3rd largest island in Europe and the 20th largest in the world. Ireland is divided in two parts, Republic of Ireland and North Ireland. The total population is just over 6 million, 4.239.848 in the Republic of Ireland and about 1.7 million in North Ireland. The population in the greater Dublin is about 1.7 millions and about 600.000 in the greater Belfast area in North Ireland.

The weather

The weather and climate on Ireland is greatly affected by the closeness to the Atlantic ocean. The highest temperature recorded was 33,3°C in June 1887 and the lowest recorded temperature was -19,1°C in January 1881. The regular temperature is ranging from 4°C to 11°C in January and 9°C to 23°C in July.

Ireland is not known for snowy winters, but on occasions casual snow falls now and then. About 40 days a year the temperature drops below zero in the mainland but it is only around ten days a year along the shoreline.
