"Rock House” is a delightful lodge built in 1820 and surrounded by its own mature
60 acres park with a number of exotic tree species. The lodge has recently been
redecorated and we can accommodate up to ten people in five twin bed rooms, three
of them with private bathrooms.
The House is French-owned and with a French chef.
For non-fishers there is plenty of hill-walking, including the Bangor Trail. And
within easy reach, there are the beautiful beaches of Achill and Mulranny several
golf courses (9 and 18 holes) in Westport and Keel and in nearby Mulranny it is
also possible to guide horse-riding.
And for those wishing to relax at the House and the surrounding gardens, we point
out that Rock House” won in November 2002 a major award during the R.D.S. Irish
Forestry and Wood contest for its approx. 60 acres of forest planted around the
House, including walkways leading to the sea.
The forest, now beautifully matured, consists of some unique species, e.g. Austrian
Pine, Spanish Chestnut, etc… some of whom were reportedly supplied in the 1840s. |
